As the industry marks the International Day for Women in Maritime this month, it is a good opportunity to recognise the growing role of women at sea and the importance of creating more opportunities for the next generation.
At Danica Crewing, we see this clearly through work with our Kenyan sea cadets. Here seafaring is seen as an attractive career, offering job security, international exposure, and strong earning potential. Following our partnership with Bandari Maritime Academy we have been able to place several female cadets.
Our experience so far has been very encouraging. Kenyan cadets have adapted well onboard, integrated smoothly into mixed crews, and shown strong potential for future development.
For shipping, supporting more women into maritime careers is not only about inclusion. It is also about widening the talent pool and strengthening the future officer pipeline.
